To me the update seems one step forward, one step backward at the same time.
It looks a lot better now and adds the missing activities in the TTS Settings. These settings do not really work though.

When I set the voice from German to Spanish, it simply speaks spanish with german pronunciation.

To fix it I have to set voice back to german, choose Pico as TTS, switch voice to spanish in Pico, then switch back to SVOX. Please investigate and fix!

Okay, I just figured out I just have to leave the settings screen to make SVOX save the new selection. That’s why it did not work, the “listen to example” option is within the menu and SVOX does not save before leaving that menu. Nevertheless, you should fix that in future versions.

Almost 5MB and no option to install on SD? Pity.

    • Latest release of voice packages now uses new feature in Froyo to install directly on SD card. Try it out!

      • David says:

I just installed the Spanish voice update and can not move it to the SD. I am told that it is copy protected.
FYI: That feature has to be deactivated in market.android.com/publish
It is about to be deprecated anyway (because licensing service should be used instead)

  4. We also found that you need to restart the settings screen to activate the new voice. However this seems rather to point to a bug in the settings screen. When the language is changed, an “init” event should be sent to the TTS engine. Otherwise the TTS engine simply does not receive the information that the language has changed.

    • Hopefully our latest update of the Classic engine fixes this problem. In any case you can just skip the message to install the voice. Navigation will use the svox classic engine if it is selected in Settings.

  5. Laurent says:

    Great work!
Since the update I can finally make it work on my Galaxy S (Android 2.1) without any problem!

    Nice voices btw!

  6. Miniver says:

Why is that your svox text to speech software does not include Chinese languages in your TTS Engine.
